“God damn it all to hell! ” Jake shook with anger, watching and listening to the asshole hit on Silk. She’d done so well too. His heart in his throat, he had applauded her going about the job of planting the surveillance equipment with such finesse. He had monitored and verbally approved as all the rooms she’d bugged had come on stream in the bank of monitors facing him and Cole in the warehouse. Amazing woman. Watching her, seeing how efficiently she handled things, something stirred. Something more than the lust they had shared last night. Though that had been beyond amazing.

“Don’t worry. I don’t think he sees her as anything but a maid. He just wants her to help out. And if she does, think of all we can learn. That group of young women he supposedly finds proper employment for, that might be a link we can exploit. Knowing more could be useful.”

“Don’t tell me not to worry!” Jake shouted, then corrected himself. Cole had been nothing but helpful. “Sorry.” He ran a hand over his jaw.

“No problem. I get that.” Cole’s tone was cool and collected. A good man to have when in a jam.

Jake made an instant decision. “I’m heading over there. I can create a diversion, get her out if necessary.”

“Do you think that’s wise? So far, her cover isn’t broken. And this is the only location we can watch what goes on.” Cole waved his hand at his vast array of equipment.

“I can’t just stand here and do nothing. This is a fluid situation—things can change instantly.”

Cole gave him a look, considering. “Okay. I’ve got a guy. A good guy. Quinn Malone—FBI. He has access to special resources if this thing goes south.”

“Okay. Good. I’ll stand down for a bit, but I can’t promise you more than that.”

“Fair enough.”

Cole bent to the task, sending an encrypted message via his computer. Jake listened to the dings of the instant messaging for a few seconds, then got up and began reading the incoming intel over Cole’s shoulder on the blue screen.

“What? Is this for real?” he barked as the full realization of events hit him hard in the solar plexus.
